A New Name, A New Vision

This year has been a year of new beginnings- We are under a new name that honors our mission, we have recently received non-profit status which will aid in our artistic expansion, we have begun to welcome singers to our roster from all over the country, and we now welcome our first 'virtual' composer in residence. Details on these ventures will be posted soon! As we bid farewell to our former name, Colla Voce, it is with great excitement that we welcome a name bestowed to us by Kumu Marilyn Saplan, Nā Wai, the waters. Wai, water, is an important element to our host culture. Wai continues to be an integral part of our traditional practices and livelihoods. Most importantly, wai continues to be an important symbol of community. Our name is meant to honor the legacy of our kūpuna, and celebrate our identity as a Hawaiian ensemble. To our Nā Wai ʻohana, we will remain steadfast in our dedication to Hawaiian music, but we also welcome a new chapter in championing works by women and celebrating the diverse array of treble repertoire. As we prepare for our summer season, please be sure to check in with us regularly! There are exciting announcements on the horizon!
